Sacred
Whether historic or new, sacred spaces can be inspiring and uplifting. We have been honored to restore historic churches, basilicas, cathedrals, shrines, meeting houses, and synagogues around the country. With John Canning’s training and decades of experience as an ecclesiastical designer, our studio has also created inspiring decorative schemes for sacred interiors of all ages.
Clients with sacred spaces enjoy our collaborative approach. Partnering with our clients in the planning and design stages gives everyone involved a clear understanding of the project goals and produces the most successful results, enabling us to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations within budget and on schedule. For many committee members, a restoration project is a once-in-a-career experience, and they have confidence in our knowledge of architectural history and ornamental painting, our practical approach to project management, our integrity, and our respect for sacred buildings.
We begin with research in the archives so we know how to interpret our findings when we begin on-site investigative work such as extracting paint samples and exposing areas of historic finishes that have been over painted. Sketches and renderings help communicate design intent. Once a design direction has been established, we often develop mock-up samples and give presentations to committees and congregations that create excitement, build consensus, and aid in fund raising.
