Plastering & Scagliola

Our studio’s plaster artisans are second to none. Skilled in ornamental and flat surface plaster production, repair, and consolidation, we are experts in casting, fabrication and carving of replacement pieces and new design elements, either on site or in the studio. Our craftspeople are experienced with traditional lime and hydraulic lime plasters, two and three coat plaster systems, and the development of support systems for plaster ceilings.

We frequently provide plaster surveys and conditions assessments to identify plaster problems and provide treatment recommendations. We develop and implement treatments for crack repair, patching, and consolidation and reattachment of loose and damaged plaster surfaces.

Our artisans are also highly skilled with specialty plaster finishes such as marmorino, sgraffito, Caen stone, and Venetian plaster.

Scagliola is a composite selenite-based material that was traditionally used to simulate marble and semi-precious stones. Once considered an alternative to costly materials, scagliola is now prized as a historical surface material in its own right, with richness of pattern, color, and depth achieved only with the highest level of craftsmanship. Our artisans are skilled with scagliola conservation, restoration, and replication of missing portions, as well as fabrication of new scagliola elements.
